The next generation of sustainable tourism experts begins studies with an international perspective

The start of the submission of applications for the International Postgraduate Studies (MSc) Program entitled “Sustainable Tourism Development: Cultural Heritage, Environment, Society” has been announced.

The program is offered by a collaboration of three academic institutions: the Departments of Economics and Sustainable Development, Geography, and Informatics and Telematics of Harokopio University of Athens, the Department of Business Administration of the University of the Aegean, as well as the Institut de Recherche et d’Études Supérieures du Tourisme (IREST) of the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne.

The duration of the program is 12 months, divided into two academic semesters, while the studies are conducted entirely in English. The lectures are held mainly at the Harokopio University of Athens, with the possibility of online attendance for students who do not reside in Greece, upon submitting a relevant, justified request.

Graduates obtain a double master’s degree: one in Tourism from Harokopio University and the University of the Aegean, as well as a master’s degree with specialization in Sustainable Tourism Development from Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne.

The deadline for submitting applications is set until July 25, 2025, while the program is self-funded.

This initiative is aimed at students and professionals who wish to acquire specialization in a vital field that combines tourism development with the sustainable management of cultural heritage and the environment.

Sustainable tourism development is the only way to protect and preserve cultural heritage, the environment, and the societies that host visitors. In a world where tourism is one of the fastest-growing industries, the balance between economic prosperity and sustainability is becoming crucial. This program, with its interdisciplinary approach, equips young professionals with the necessary tools to promote responsible practices and contribute to building a more sustainable tourism future, where respect for the environment and local communities is not just optional, but fundamental.
