Paros: Shifting towards high-income tourism

Paros is taking steady steps towards high-income tourism, consolidating its reputation as a quality destination, not only during the summer peak, but also in the mature periods of the tourist season. The first signs of the upgrading of the island’s tourism product are now confirmed by international market sources.

In the European Top 10 of “underrated” luxury destinations

The most significant recognition so far came from international tour operator CV Villas, which included Paros in the 20 most “underrated” luxury destinations in Europe for 2025. Specifically, the Cycladic island occupies 6th place on the list – the highest for a Greek destination – with a “Luxury Index” of 66.13/100.

The CV Villas study was based on the analysis of travel reviews for less prominent European destinations. The index was formed based on the frequency of the word “luxury”, the rating, and the volume of reviews, and showed that Paros attracts tourists who appreciate architecture, authentic gastronomic experience,s and high-level accommodation facilities.

Turning to major markets: USA and UK

Interesting data also emerges from the Ferryscanner platform’s booking analysis. Between January 1 and May 31, Paros recorded a notable increase in demand from two key markets: the United States and the United Kingdom.

Specifically, Paros rose to second place in the preferences of American travelers, while climbing to first place for British tourists, surpassing other established island destinations. This interest is directly linked to the search for experiences that offer tranquility, authenticity, and discreet luxury.

Tourists with high spending and off-peak periods

According to a recent survey by Ipsos on behalf of Visa, travelers from the United States show a preference for July (21%), with an average expenditure of 3,040 euros per person for this year’s holidays in Greece. The British prefer May (17%) and June (27%), with an average expenditure of 1,900 euros, while the French, who are also included in the Paros audience, mainly choose September (20%), spending 2,550 euros per person.

These figures confirm that Paros is gaining ground among visitors with a higher income profile, with a shift to off-peak periods – a fact that strengthens sustainable tourism development and extends the season.

Municipality of Paros: The goal is quality, not just arrivals

Speaking on this, the Deputy Mayor for Tourism of the Municipality of Paros, Thodoris Bizas, underlined that the island’s strategy focuses on the qualitative upgrade of the tourism product and the strengthening of revenues, beyond the simple increase in arrivals.

“Paros’ strategic orientation to ensure positive results not only in arrivals, but also in revenue – and even in off-peak months – appears, based on irrefutable criteria, to be successful. We continue to work towards the qualitative upgrade of incoming tourism and, in this, we have the hospitality and catering professionals as allies, thanks to the high-quality services they offer,” he stated characteristically.
