The founder of the country’s first Greek cable station is being honored with a street renaming in Astoria.
The intersection of Steinway Street and 31st Avenue will be called Demetris Kastanas Way.
It is the same block where Kastanas’ National Greek Television offices, now called New Greek TV, are located.
Demetris Kastanas launched the cable station, geared toward Greek-Americans, on Time Warner in 1987.
Kastanas died in 2013 at 70 years old after selling the station.
There’s no date yet for the street renaming ceremony.
