IATA’s board of governors has unanimously voted that Alexandre de Juniac succeed the retiring Tony Tyler as director general and CEO of the association. De Juniac is the chairman and CEO of Air France-KLM, travelweekly.com reports.
The appointment is scheduled to be confirmed at IATA’s annual meeting, to be hel between June 1 to 3 in Dublin.
Air France-KLM announced its board of directors has prepared a plan to appoint a successor to de Juniac.
IATA Chairman Andres Conesa noted that de Juniac’s “broad experience in aviation and government makes him the ideal candidate to take our association to even greater heights.”
De Juniac has served as Air France-KLM’s chairman and CEO since 2013. Before that, he was chairman and CEO of Air France from 2011 to 2013.
From 1995 to 2009, he held various leadership positions at Thales, the French aerospace, defense and transport company previously known as Thomson-CSF.
He has also held positions in the French government. His career began with the Conseil d’Etat (State Council) from 1988 to 1993. Subsequently, he served in the Department of Budget as a technical adviser and was then deputy chief of staff in the Cabinet of President Nicolas Sarkozy from 1993 to 1995 and in the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Employment as chief of staff to then Minister of Finance Christine Lagarde from 2009 to 2011.
