US Ambassador to Greece David D. Pearce is being replaced by Geoffrey R. Pyatt, a former US Ambassador to Ukraine.
The US State Department has chosen an experienced and firm diplomat as the next American Ambassador to Greece. Pyatt became widely known due to a conversation he had with US Deputy Minister for European Affairs, Victoria Nuland, during the Russia-Ukraine crisis in January 2014. The conversation had been tapped and posted online.
Pyatt is a diplomat who maintains close relations with Nuland, who for a long time has been in charge of the American foreign politics in the Eastern Mediterranean. Washington has already sent the appropriate document to the Greek government and is awaiting for its approval in order for Pyatt to come to Greece.
