Georgios Athanassiou, 48 is appointed by Alitalia as the new General Manager for Greece.
He joined Alitalia Greece in 1998 as Key Account Manager Business where after 4 very successful years, was appointed by Alitalia as Country Manager for Syria & Iraq. His expatriate management career continued in 2006 being posted from his company as an Area manager Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan based in teheran and later on in 2009 he took over the Country management of Poland for the 6 coming years based in warsaw. Next stop for his international carrier in Alitalia was Romania & Moldova, continuing under the same duties to lead Alitalia’s local team, based in Bucharest.
Since July 2016 1st he has taken over Alitalia’s management in Greece based in Athens (supporting also the markets of Cyprus & Malta) and is the first local Greek Country manager Alitalia has ever appointed ever since started operations between Greece & Italy.
Currently the leading Italian airline (member of Etihad Airline Partners & Skyteam) operates with all newly refitted Airbus 31x/32x family aircrafts and redesigned onboard service experience from Athens to Rome-Fiumicino, 4 times per day, year-round and seasonally connects Italy with Thessaloniki, Santorini, Myconos, Rhodes and Heraklion.
