Netflix boss to start making Reality TV in 2017

Ted Sarandos, the man who has helped make Netflix the industry giant it is today, announced that the streaming service will be rolling out about 20 new unscripted series in 2017.

Netflix has had tremendous success with its original content, which it now produces in 12 countries around the world, starting with “House of Cards” a few years ago and leading to more recent must-watch limited series television such as “Stranger Things” and “The Get Down”.

The service has managed to attract some of the most creative minds in the filmmaking industry both behind the scenes and on-camera, including directors like David Fincher and Baz Luhrmann, and creators/writers like Tina Fey. However, this new venture into reality TV will be breaking new ground for Netflix.

Though Sarandos was short on specifics regarding the future programming, information has already been released about one of the programs, titled “Ultimate Beastmaster”.

The competition reality show will be executive produced by Sylvester Stallone, and will work with the novel idea of simultaneous production around the world. That means that each country will see local hosts and local athletes competing on their version of their show.

With the new reality TV programs, Sarandos aims to bring Netflix closer to its ultimate (for now) goal of 1,000 annual hours of original content production.
