Ifigenia Kanara, a familiar figure in the Greek-American community, is the new Consul General in New York. The Deputy Head of Mission in London, with a successful tenure as Consul General in Boston, is expected to soon assume her new duties in New York. Her experience in London and Boston, and particularly her excellent reputation due to her work, played a significant role in her selection for New York.
What stands out about Kanara is her diligence, which comes without making any promises or commitments.
There are no “I will” statements, no commitments before arriving at the Consulate, and certainly no grand promises.
On the other hand, she gains confidence from her desire to contribute. “I intend to make every effort to do something good there. I want it to be clear to everyone that I am enthusiastic,” about the opportunities and challenges. Her motto is “the enemy of good is ‘better’,” which bodes well for the future of the Greek-American community in New York.
