Vacations are much more than just relaxation – they make us younger! This is what a YouGov survey on behalf of TUI shows.
In particular, 37% of Germans who responded to the survey said that they not only felt refreshed after their vacation but actually felt or looked younger. Another 31% also partially agreed with this sentiment.
22% of vacationers, moreover, feel five years younger after their vacation, and a further 15% estimate that this feeling of youth exceeds five years!
The majority – 38% – estimate that they feel between one and three years younger for themselves. On average, respondents say that they feel 4.2 years younger after their vacation.
The beneficial effect of a vacation, according to the survey respondents, lasts long after the trip is over. The majority of Germans look or feel younger for a period of a few days to two weeks (59%). For 10% of respondents, it lasts three weeks, and for 14% it lasts up to a month.
60% plan a vacation in 2025
Germans will continue to travel in 2025: 60% of respondents plan to take a multi-day vacation at least once a year, according to the TUI study. In fact, a third of those who want to travel have already booked their holidays for 2025.
One in five plan to travel more than in 2024. 37% of respondents want to take at least two trips in 2025.
“The trend is clear: despite economic uncertainties, holidays remain a priority for many,” commented Sebastian Ebel, CEO of the TUI Group.
According to the survey, the “feel good” on holiday is created by: experiences in nature (for 85%), relaxation and well-being (for 79%), time with family and friends (for 75%), and getting away from work (for 72%).
Travel causes well-being and slows down aging
The results of the latest YouGov survey on behalf of TUI are consistent with a scientific study by Edith Cowan University (ECU) in Australia. The study has shown that travel not only increases well-being but can also slow down the signs of aging. As highlighted, positive travel experiences – physical activity, social interactions, positive emotions, and exposure to new environments – can strengthen the immune system, stimulate metabolism, and promote the body’s natural self-healing process.
“Simply put, the body’s self-defense system becomes more resilient. Travel is not just about leisure and recreation – it can also contribute significantly to physical and mental health,” emphasizes study director Fangli Hu.
For example, moderate activities such as hiking, cycling or climbing can boost metabolism and blood circulation, as well as improve the body’s resistance to external influences.
About the YouGov survey
The survey was conducted by YouGov on behalf of TUI among 2,169 adults in Germany, surveyed online between November 29 and December 2. The findings are based on 1,431 people who had traveled in the past 24 months.
