Preparing the settlement of Kionia for the tourist season: An example to follow

Targeted interventions for an upgraded tourist destination

The proper preparation of a tourist destination is vital for its smooth operation during the high season, ensuring the safety, aesthetics, and overall experience of visitors. In this context, the Council of the Community of Ktikados submitted a request to the Municipality of Tinos, submitting an extensive Technical Program for the improvement of the settlement of Kionia, which is the largest tourist settlement in the Municipal Unit of Exombourg.

With a multitude of professional facilities and residences, Kionia serves both permanent residents and the thousands of seasonal visitors expected this year. The President of the Community Council pointed out that the timely implementation of the works is essential, so that the settlement is ready to welcome tourists safely and comfortably. The list of proposed interventions includes rehabilitation and improvement projects in vital infrastructure, such as the repair of the beach steps, the maintenance of the road surface, and the renovation of the wooden sidewalks. At the same time, emphasis is placed on the demarcation of the roads, the improvement of lighting, the restoration of public spaces, and the cleanliness of the settlement.

Priority on safety, accessibility, and aesthetics

Accessibility for all is a key priority, with the program including the creation of sidewalks and ramps for the disabled, the maintenance of pedestrian crossings, and the installation of reflectors for the safety of road travel. In addition, the replacement of old water supply infrastructure, the maintenance of the water tank, and the installation of a fire hydrant are planned in order to ensure the adequacy and quality of water, as well as the fire safety of the settlement.

The aesthetic upgrade of the area includes actions such as cleaning and whitewashing of public areas, restoring the benches, placing small waste bins on the beach, and maintaining the information sign of the settlement. Additionally, with a view to improving the visitor experience, it is proposed to place floats for bathers to rest and create an organized parking area.

The Ktikadou Community Council highlighted the need for the rapid implementation of these projects, submitting photographic material that captures the current state of the infrastructure. Similar initiatives can serve as an example for other municipalities that wish to upgrade their tourist destinations. Timely preparation and the implementation of substantial improvements not only contribute to the immediate service of visitors but also enhance the reputation and sustainability of the destination in the long term.
