The Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Christos Dimas, together with the Secretary General of Infrastructure, Dimitris Anagnopoulos, and the Secretary General of Transport, Despina Paliarouta, conducted an inspection of the new Heraklion International Airport of Crete under construction, in the Kastelli area of ??the Municipality of Minoas Pediada.
The political leadership of the Ministry inspected the construction site, noting the high progress of the work, which is approaching approximately 60% of the total project.
Subsequently, Mr. Dimas and the Secretary General held a broad meeting, during which they were informed about the progress of the construction of the new airport and its accompanying projects.
The Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Christos Dimas, stated: “The construction of the airport in Kastelli is one of the most important public projects in the country. A project that will truly change not only Crete, but also Greece. It will be the most modern airport in the country and will serve millions of passengers.
We are here, the political leadership of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, together with the Regional Governor, the MPs, the Mayors, the leadership of the Civil Aviation Authority, and the IPTO, in order to discuss all the issues that exist. In such an important and very complex public project, there are several open issues. However, we believe that in recent times, as we have been holding meetings at regular intervals, where we raise all the questions regarding the construction of the airport, we will have very good results.
So within this framework, we are also conducting the autopsy today, in order to see some issues up close. I am optimistic that very soon we will move forward at an even faster pace.”
Also present at the meeting were the MPs of Heraklion Konstantinos Kefalogiannis and Maximos Senetakis, the Governor of Crete Stavros Arnaoutakis, the Deputy Governor of Heraklion Nikolaos Syrigonakis, the Mayors of Minoa Pediada Vasilios Keggeroglou and Hersonissos Zacharias Doxastakis, the Governor of the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority Giorgos Saunatsos, the Governor of Heraklion Airport Iakovos Ouranos, the Director of New Transport Projects of IPTO Michalis Hatzipanos, as well as representatives of the construction consortium.
