The prices of airline tickets and organized trips abroad for Germans increased in the first half of 2025, according to data from the Federal Statistical Office of Germany (Destatis). Specifically, tickets for international flights were 3.8% more expensive compared to the same period in 2024.
The largest increase was observed in economy class tickets for destinations within Europe, where the average price increased by 7.7%. Demand for European destinations, combined with limited availability and increased operating costs for airlines, appears to have contributed to the price increase.
In contrast, increases on long-haul international routes were clearly more moderate. Flights to North America increased by 1.7%, while prices to Central America were almost stable, with an increase of just 0.3%.
It is noteworthy that for some continents, prices showed a downward trend. Air tickets to South America were cheaper, with a decrease of 3%, and to Africa, where the drop reached 4.6%. Flights to Asia and Australia recorded the largest price decline, with a decrease of 5.8% compared to the first half of the previous year.
The differentiation in prices by destination reflects the complex balances of supply and demand in the global aviation market. Factors such as geopolitical stability, exchange rates, tourism trends, but also the adaptation of airlines to post-pandemic conditions affect the cost of travel.
The trend of increasing prices for European flights has already begun to concern travel agents and consumers, especially during peak periods, as holiday packages become significantly more expensive. On the other hand, the reduction in prices in Asian and African destinations may give impetus to alternative travel plans for more flexible travelers.
The Destatis data outlines a period of intense changes in the air transport sector, with impacts not only on the tourist movement of Germans abroad, but also on the strategies of travel agencies and destinations that seek to maintain or strengthen their position on the competitive map of the global tourism market
