Emirates orders 65 additional Boeing 777Xs worth $38 billion at Dubai Airshow 2025

The agreement stipulates that Emirates may, if it chooses, convert part of the new 777-9 order into 777-8 or the larger 777-10 – a move that effectively supports Boeing’s ongoing feasibility study for the 777-10.

Emirates remains the largest customer and operator of Boeing 777 aircraft worldwide, with a total order of 280 aircraft – including freighters – and is the largest customer of GE9X engines with 540 units, among them the 130 additional engines signed yesterday.

Emirates, the world’s largest international airline, announced yesterday, on the first day of Dubai Airshow 2025, a new order for 65 additional Boeing 777-9 aircraft equipped with GE9X engines, valued at 38 billion dollars at list prices.

With the new agreement, Emirates’ total Boeing widebody order book now stands at 315 aircraft – 270 Boeing 777X, 10 777F freighters, and 35 Boeing 787. At the same time, GE9X engine orders from GE Aerospace now reach 540 units. This investment represents one of the strongest commitments in recent years to the American aerospace industry, indirectly supporting hundreds of thousands of high-skilled jobs in the United States over many years.

The new Emirates agreement also acts as support for Boeing’s development study of the 777-10, the largest potential member of the 777X family. The airline has secured the right to convert part of its 777-9 order in the future to 777-10 or 777-8.

His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, stated: “Emirates is already the world’s largest operator of the Boeing 777 and today we further extend our commitment to the program, with additional orders worth 38 billion dollars for 65 Boeing 777-9 aircraft and 130 GE9X engines. This is a long-term strategic move and proof of our close relationship with Boeing and GE, as well as our continued support for the aerospace industry of the United States.

Each aircraft in this order has been carefully integrated into Emirates’ growth plans, fully aligned with Dubai’s ambitions for the coming years. Maintaining a modern new-generation fleet and offering innovative cabin products remain at the core of our strategy. We expect the first deliveries of the 777-9 from the second quarter of 2027 and are working closely with Boeing to ensure that our new aircraft include advanced features that will further upgrade the flight experience.”

Referring to the 777-10 study, he added: “We have made it clear for some time that the market needs aircraft with greater capacity and even higher efficiency, especially with the anticipated increase in air traffic and growing airport constraints. This is why we fully support Boeing’s feasibility study for the 777-10 and have retained the option to convert part of our latest 777-9 order to 777-10 or 777-8.”

The President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, Stephanie Pope, commented: “We are greatly honored that Emirates is once again choosing the 777X to support its next steps, strengthening its already leading fleet and global network. Our partnership with Emirates spans over 40 years, during which it has grown into one of the world’s most important carriers. We look forward to continuing this path and expanding it even further in the coming years.”

The President and CEO of Commercial Engines & Services at GE Aerospace, Russell Stokes, stated: “We are proud to deepen a decades-long partnership with Emirates, as together we advance the future of aviation. As the largest global customer for GE90 and GP7200 engines, Emirates now reaffirms its confidence in our technology and team with the new GE9X order. We are ready to support Emirates at every stage as it harnesses the efficiency and reliability of our leading technological solutions and services.”

Throughout its 40-year history, Emirates has operated every model of the Boeing 777 family and today has the largest 777 fleet in the world, powered by GE90 engines. The airline’s 119 Boeing 777-300ER, 10 Boeing 777-200LR, and 11 Boeing 777F connect Dubai with more than 140 destinations and support trade, tourism, and economic activity across six continents.

Following yesterday’s order, Emirates expects Boeing deliveries through 2038 – a commitment that will activate the expertise and technical skill of thousands of workers in the United States, where the 777X and GE9X engines are manufactured and assembled, in states such as Alabama, Kansas, Kentucky, Indiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Texas, Vermont, and Washington.
