The programmatic agreement for an important road project connecting Attica with the Peloponnese was signed today by Regional Governors Nikos Hardalias and Dimitris Ptochos, at the Administration Building of the Region of Attica, in the presence of the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Christos Dimas and the Mayor of Loutraki–Perachora–Agioi Theodoroi, Giorgos Gionis.
The agreement concerns the implementation of the study for eliminating the safety hazards on the coastal road connecting Alepochori in Attica with Schinos in Corinthia, with the aim of immediately restoring the problems that have occurred on the road surface due to landslides and erosion from the sea.
Within the framework of the project, with a budget of 430,000 euros from the Region of Attica’s own resources, all relevant studies are planned to be carried out – topographical, road engineering, hydraulic, geological, and geotechnical – by the Peloponnese Development Organization S.A.
Immediately after the signing of the agreement, the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Christos Dimas, stated: “The Programmatic Agreement concerning the restoration studies for the upgrade of the coastal road section Alepochori – Schinos is a substantial step forward for this very important project for Attica and Corinthia.
We are talking about a road axis that serves as an alternative route to the National Highway, which has been heavily affected in recent years by landslides, coastal erosion, and extreme weather events and natural disasters.
Essentially, these are necessary works in order to safeguard this critical infrastructure for the region, given the possibility that additional extreme phenomena may occur in the future.
We welcome this development and as the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, we will support the Region’s efforts.”
“The signing of the programmatic agreement with the dynamic partner, Regional Governor of the Peloponnese, Dimitris Ptochos, marks another substantial step toward strengthening road safety and protecting human life, an issue that is a shared goal for all of us who have the honor to serve in Local Government,” stated Hardalias, adding: “The Region of Attica has placed at the top of its agenda the projects that upgrade infrastructure, enhance road safety, and create conditions for sustainable development. With targeted interventions, modern studies, and close cooperation with all involved bodies, we seek solutions that are not fragmented but resilient and forward-looking.
Today’s initiative proves that when Regions, the State, and Local Government work together with planning and determination, they can deliver tangible results for citizens. With consistency, transparency, and cooperation, we continue building safer roads, more resilient infrastructures, and safer cities and regions for all.
I would like to warmly thank the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Christos Dimas, for his steady support and contribution to promoting critical road safety interventions, as well as the Mayor of Loutraki – Perachora – Agioi Theodoroi, Giorgos Gionis, for his close cooperation and meaningful presence.”
From his side, Ptochos stated: “The completion of the studies is a substantial step for citizens’ safety and for strengthening the connection between Attica and the Peloponnese. This is a road of particular importance, both for permanent residents and for tourist traffic, which has faced serious problems for years due to landslides and erosion.
With the Programmatic Agreement, we are joining forces so that all required study works proceed in a documented, comprehensive, and reliable manner. Our goal is to create a solid foundation for the next implementation stages, ensuring road safety and uninterrupted accessibility in an area with distinctive geomorphology and increased protection needs.
Our close cooperation with the Region of Attica and my esteemed colleague Nikos Hardalias, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and Minister Christos Dimas, as well as the Municipality of Loutraki – Perachora – Agioi Theodoroi and Mayor Giorgos Gionis, demonstrates in practice that the State and Local Government, when acting in coordination, can provide solutions to critical and longstanding problems. At the same time, the contribution of the Peloponnese Development Organization is decisive, as it undertakes a complex project with high technical requirements.
When all institutions combine their efforts with the shared goal of public interest, we can move forward quickly, methodically, and effectively with interventions that safeguard infrastructures and meet citizens’ needs.”
“The signing of the Programmatic Agreement marks an important milestone for our Municipality and the wider area,” stated the Mayor of Loutraki – Perachora – Agioi Theodoroi, Giorgos Gionis, adding: “The cooperation among the involved bodies confirms the collective will to address quickly and effectively the implementation of a project of lasting significance for the region. I would like to warmly thank the Regional Governor of Attica, Nikos Hardalias, the Regional Governor of the Peloponnese, Dimitris Ptochos, and the CEO of the Peloponnese Development Organization, Theodoros Kounadeas, for their contribution. I also thank Minister Christos Dimas for his presence and continued support, which proves that the State recognizes the importance of the project and the need for it to proceed without further delays.”
Present at the signing were the CEO of the Peloponnese Development Organization, Thodoris Kounadeas, the Director of Development Programming of the Region of Attica, Mary Miska, and the President of the Local Council of Pisia, Dimitris Lamprou.
