Contract for Greek Piraeus port cruise pier to be signed soon

The signing of the contract for the major construction project regarding the extension of the Cruise Pier of Piraeus Port is considered to be a matter of days, according to well-informed sources of ypodomes.com, reporting that the NSRF-funded project is due to start very soon as there is a pressure of time, ypodomes.com reports.

The contractor is TEKAL company with an offer that reached 103m euros (excl. VAT) – i.e. a bid that was around 24.5%. A few days ago a meeting took place between the company executives and the new «boss» of COSCO, to discuss the construction of this new project.

Construction executives say that this is currently the largest cruise pier-related project in Europe. The flourishing of the port of Piraeus is also evident from its traffic statistics which show an increase in the movement of both passengers and goods, every year.

The project for the construction of the new cruise pier in the port of Piraeus is part of the COSCO investment program for Piraeus Port Authority (aka OLP), that reaches 800m euros and was submitted a few weeks ago for approval to ESAL. Its initial value was calculated at 136m euros(excl. VAT) and until recently was the spearhead for new port investments.

What is expected next, is the launch of the tender for the even bigger construction project of the 4th pier at Ikonio area, with a budget of 300m euros.
