Greek Port of Piraeus Cruise Pier expansion project signed

The major project regarding the extension of Piraeus Port cruise pier was signed on Tuesday, February 25, ypodomes.com reports.

The contract was awarded, following a long and difficult process, to TEKAL company that now holds the title of the most specialized firm in similar projects. TEKAL’s financial offer was 103m euros (incl. VAT) against a budget of 136.3m euros (average discount of around 24.5%).

Construction executives point out that this is currently the largest cruise pier project in Europe. The momentum of Piraeus Port is also evident from the statistics which show an increase in passenger and goods traffic, every year. The construction of the new cruise pier is a flagship project of COSCO’s investment program for PPA which exceeds 600m euros.

Representatives of major cruise firms (e.g. Carnival and Royal Caribbean) as well as a number of other representatives from local authorities, shipping agencies, chambers and various associations expressed their positive opinion towards this investment, showing with their participation that this project port is beyond the limits of the port and is expected to have a positive footprint in the local and national economy.

The President of PPA SA, Mr. Yu Zenggang noted: “COSCO SHIPPING has a broad development plan for the port of Piraeus. Our goal is to improve all the activities and the expansion of the passenger port will enhance the cruise not only in Piraeus but all over  Greece.”
