The president of the Cruise Ship Owners and Shipping Operators Association (EEKFN), Georgios Koumbenas, expressed his hope that the indications for this year’s tourist season in Greece will be verified and that we will not experience other events and situations that will affect the activity of the cruise industry, speaking at the annual general meeting of the Association.
Regarding the 2024 report, he emphasized that the year was satisfactory for the cruise industry in our country. However, according to the data of the Hellenic Ports Association, 2024 was a record year.

The normalization of traffic will also restore activity in the field of new shipbuilding, which now seems to be progressing at a rapid pace.
The Association and its Members took all the necessary actions during the past year, in order to have the necessary arrangements in place to facilitate the movement of ships and the passengers – tourists transported with them. Cooperation with the local authorities of the ports – cruise destinations was on a regular basis and with the assistance of local representatives – and agents.
We will continue, he said, the struggle, according to the action plans, so that we can achieve the resolution of as many issues as possible that concern the sector, in this case for the better service of ships and management companies, always in accordance with the developments of the time, taking into account what is happening with the climate change crisis, the developments in areas where there is currently a state of war, technological development and what the free market imposes in the international arena.

The situation in Santorini and the neighboring islands of the Cyclades, with the seismic vibrations a few weeks ago, is a fact that has caused concern among residents and visitors-tourists. For the cruise and the ports of disembarkation, mainly the old port, where the cable car station is located, we are in contact with all the competent bodies, regarding the course of service for cruise ships.
The monitoring of issues of interest to the sector, which are examined by International and Community Bodies, is carried out in a systematic manner and for the entire spectrum related to the operation of ships (Safety – Security and especially in recent years issues related to the atmospheric environment).
