The image of cruising in Chania appears particularly strong during the first five months of 2025, confirming the continued dynamic of the destination as a stable pole of attraction for international cruise itineraries.
According to official data, from January to May 2025, a total of 40 cruise ship arrivals were recorded at the port of Souda and the Venetian port of Chania, with the number of passengers reaching 82,600.
In comparison, in the corresponding period of 2024, 35 arrivals were made, carrying 68,500 passengers, which translates into a 20.6% increase in the number of visitors.
This upward trend demonstrates the strengthening of Chania’s role on the global cruise map and the success of strategic efforts to upgrade port infrastructure, ship services, and enhance the visitor experience in the city.
Based on the cruise companies’ planning for the rest of the year and the positive momentum already being recorded, it is estimated that the total number of cruise visitors to Chania in 2025 will exceed 300,000, a record number for the region, as we have reported in Tornos News
Continuing cooperation with leading operators in the industry, expanding passenger experiences, and strengthening the local economy through the connection of the port with the urban and tourist fabric of Chania remain key goals for the immediate future, always with the industry players on the island.
