The data for cruises in Chania in the first ten months of 2025 are impressive, confirming the dynamics of the destination and the initial estimates of the Port Fund. From January 1 to October 31, 194 cruise ship arrivals with 391,000 passengers were recorded, of which 173 ships with 382,389 passengers approached the port of Souda and 21 ships with 8,611 passengers approached the Venetian port of Chania.
Compared to the corresponding ten months of 2024, when 133 arrivals with 271,246 passengers had taken place, the increase amounts to 45.86% in ships and 44.15% in passengers. The average exceeds 1,000 cruise visitors per day, while 18 more arrivals are expected by the end of the year, and 14 approaches have already been planned for the first quarter of 2026.
At this point, it should be emphasized that, as the president of the Chania Prefecture Port Fund, Dimitris Virirakis, recently stated to Tornos News, “2026 is expected to be an even stronger year for cruises in Chania, with increased approaches and new company names entering Souda for the first time”. At the same time, as he had pointed out, “the goal is to establish Souda as a departure port for specific companies, which will dramatically enhance the economic benefits for the place”.
The destination’s steady upward trajectory, combined with the Port Fund’s continuous collaboration with organizations and companies, is now shaping a new landscape for cruising in Chania, which effectively strengthens the strategy for year-round tourism.
