Chania is currently entering a new page for the cruise industry, as the destination passed the 400,000 passenger milestone for 2025, recording the highest performance since 2011, when the industry began operating.
With the arrival of Artania with 1066 passengers and Nautica which is expected at 10.00 with 664 passengers, the total number of cruise visitors today stands at 401,530. At the same time, the 204 arrivals this year smash last year’s performance of 144 arrivals and 285,729 passengers, confirming the destination’s strong growth trajectory.
It is worth noting that the new performance is not only a numerical record. As the president of the Chania Port Fund, Dimitris Virirakis, points out, the cruise is a lever for strengthening the local economy and employment, while advertising the destination to an international audience of high demand.
In any case, the challenge of the next day concerns maintaining the impressive figures and improving services and infrastructure. The upgrade of port facilities and the overall visitor experience is considered a crucial factor for continuing the upward trend.
