At least two people were killed, a 60-year-old woman and 30-year-old police officer, and six were injured after a shooting attack at the Ammunition Hill light rail station in Jerusalem on Sunday.
According to Magen David Adom emergency responders, three of the six hurt were moderately wounded and three were lightly wounded.
Two of the wounded were being treated at Jerusalem’s Hadassah University Hospital, including one moderately wounded and one lightly wounded by shrapnel.
One of the victims was also taken to Jerusalem’s Shaare Zedek Medical Center, reported Haaretz.
The assailant was shot after a brief pursuit by police forces.
The assailant, identified as a 39-year-old resident of East Jerusalem’s Silwan neighbourhood, fled to nearby Sheikh Jarrah, where he continued shooting. Police forces shot the assailant after a brief pursuit, and he succumbed to his wounds a short time after, reported Haaretz.
Hamas praised the attacker who perpetrated the attack, reported The Jerusalem Post.
The organisation said the attack was a “natural response to the occupation“.
