Suicide bomber kills at least 27 and injures 35 at Kabul Shia mosque

At least 27 people have been killed and 35 wounded after a deadly suicide bombing hit a Shia mosque in Char Qala, Kabul, local police announced.

According to Istiqlal hospital officials, children were among the victims.

The incident occurred shortly after 12.30pm (local time).

Early reports indicated that a suicide bomber detonated explosives during a Shia ceremony at the Baqir-ul-Olum mosque, reported Afghanistan’s TOLOnews.

Eyewitnesses told TOLO that the suicide bomber detonated explosives towards the end of the mosque’s prayer ceremony.

Ulema Council confirmed the attack.

The Taliban announced it was not responsible for the attack, according to TOLO.
