76 people killed in Colombian plane crash with 81 on board (videos)

A plane transporting a Brazilian soccer team to Medellin’s international airport in Colombia crashed overnight, officials said.

Authorities are responding to the plane crash at a hill in La Union, according to the Jose Maria Cordovaairport’s Twitter page.  The municipality is roughly two dozen miles from the airport.

The charter aircraft, which took off from Bolivia, was carrying 72 passengers and nine crewmembers, including the Chapecoense Brazilian soccer team that was expected to play in the Copa Sudamerica finals against Atletico Nacional on Wednesday in Medellin.

According to authorities, 76 people from the 81 passengers were killed. According to international media reports, three of the Brazilian team’s players survived the crash, as well as a journalist and another passenger.
