195 million years old traces of collagen in dinosaur tissue fossil

Scientists from Toronto, Canada claimed in Nature Communications Scientific Review, that they identified traces of collagen in a dinosaur fossil 195.000.000 years old. Soft tissue is extremely difficult and rare to be preserved inside fossils. But if found it can be the source of enormous amounts of information, provided that it won’t be contaminated during it extraction.

The dinosaur, a Lufengosaurus which was found in China, was a vegetarian species of the early Jurassic Period.

However, scientists, although thrilled, are still cautious as to the final results of the research and to what kind of results they could get.
