Wyndham – Soliteight | 40 Super 8 hotels in Spain and Portugal

Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, the world’s largest hotel franchise with 25 brands and approximately 9,300 hotels, has signed an exclusive development agreement with Soliteight Hotel Projects SA to bring the Super 8® by Wyndham brand to the Iberian market in Spain and Portugal.

As part of the agreement, Soliteight, a leading hotel development and investment company and already a Wyndham franchisee, will develop and open 40 Super 8 hotels over the next 10 years, filling a significant gap in the region’s hotel market.

Super 8, an internationally recognized budget hotel brand known for its hospitality, reliability, and excellent value for money, is targeting the growing budget-conscious traveler market in Spain and Portugal. The initiative comes at a time of rapid tourism growth in both countries, with a growing demand for reliable, quality, affordable accommodation. Wyndham already operates 14 Super 8 hotels across Europe, the Middle East, Eurasia, and Africa, including in Germany, the United Kingdom, and Saudi Arabia.

The first hotel is expected to open in Leiria, Portugal in the fourth quarter of 2027, with additional hotels to follow in strategic locations in major cities and towns, major transport hubs, airports and shopping centres. Many of the hotels will be new builds, with smart and sustainable design, remaining true to the brand’s commitment to quality.

Mr. Dimitris Manikis, President, Europe, Middle East, Eurasia and Africa, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, said: “The entry of Super 8 into Spain and Portugal is a strategic move to make quality and affordable travel more accessible. Southern Europe is experiencing a growing need for reliable and affordable accommodation, and our partnership with Soliteight is filling this gap. By bringing a recognizable brand to key destinations, we are ensuring travelers receive exceptional value without compromising on quality. We look forward to bringing affordable prices, modern comfort, and sustainability to these dynamic markets with the Super 8 brand.”

Responding to market needs

Super 8 by Wyndham’s entry into Spain and Portugal is driven by the tourism boom, changing travel trends, and the demand for quality yet affordable accommodation. In 2024, Spain welcomed a record 94 million international visitors, while Portugal also saw significant tourism growth. Spain’s strong economic performance, with a GDP growth of 3.2% in the same year, further boosted domestic and business tourism, especially in emerging markets and secondary cities. As travelers seek alternatives between basic budget options and expensive mid-range hotels, Super 8 by Wyndham is here to fill this gap, offering reliable, quality, and affordable hospitality.

For his part, Mr. Rui Alpalh?o, CEO, Soliteight, said: “Spain and Portugal continue to lag behind other European markets in terms of branded economy hotel penetration, with a 10% deficit, despite a 142% increase in RevPAR since 2019. We are excited to partner with Wyndham as the exclusive developers of Super 8 in Iberia, addressing the need for branded economy hotels that offer comfort, consistency, and value to international and domestic travelers.”
