Kalymnos island to get new ferry dock, merchant marine engineering school

Kalymnos island will get a new ferryboat dock for 12 million euros and become a center of training for the Greek merchant marine, Maritime Affairs & Insular Policy Deputy Minister Stefanos Gikas said on the island, ANA reports.

Gikas was on the island to inaugurate the international sailing race “Aegean Regatta 2024” (August 19-24), and announced the upgrades after meeting with Mayor Ioannis Mastrokoukos.

Among other projects slated for the island is a tender to be announced for the salvaging of the sunken freighter ‘Blue Shark’, speeding up the founding and operation of a Merchant Marine Engineering Academy, and upgrading the Diving School. The promotion of Southeast Aegean island as a center of maritime education is a goal of the government and Maritime Affairs & Insular Policy Minister Christos Stylianidis himself, the deputy minister said.
