The flagship project "Urban Regeneration of parts of Eastern Kalamaria" underway

The Programmatic Contract for the construction of the flagship project “Urban Regeneration of Parts of Eastern Kalamaria” was signed on Tuesday morning by the Mayor of Kalamaria Chrysa Arapoglou and the President of the Development Major Urban Thessaloniki SA – Development Organization of Local Government (MATH SA OTA), Asterios Zafeirakis.

The project, whose design and construction financing with resources exceeding 15 million euros, was secured from the first months of the municipal authority’s term of office by the Region of Central Macedonia and specifically from the program “Central Macedonia 2021-2027”, is being implemented through a Programmatic Contract with MATH SA OTA.

The aim of the emblematic project, which the Municipality of Kalamaria is integrating into the framework of the integrated planning it is promoting, is to provide a new public space for residents as well as to connect Finikas with the coastal front, through the creation of a green path parallel to the peripheral moat. The project will completely upgrade the public space and redefine the relationship of the city and its residents with the sea.

The project is of great importance for Kalamaria, as it is directly linked to the opening of Pontou Street, with the regeneration being part of the overall planning of the city to welcome the operation of the Metro.

“It is a historic signature, as the project will transform Finikas and the entire southeastern side of Kalamaria, while with its connection to the Metro and the other major project undertaken by MAT, the Tourist Bike Path, the next day will find our city attractive and sustainable. A city worth living in,” said the Mayor of Kalamaria, Chrysa Arapoglou.

The regeneration includes interventions on Ikaron, Dimitras, Amfitritis, Nikolaou Stratou, Odysseos, Praxitelous, Dimokritou, Kakoulides streets, as well as in the surrounding area of ??the Finikas stadium, as well as in green spaces in the center of Finikas, while the projects include, among other things, the construction of sidewalks, new lighting, and the creation of walking and cycling routes.
