Decisions for tourist shelters in Leros, Chalkidiki, Xiromero and Agia Anna

Important decisions affecting the management, operation and development of tourist shelters and marinas have recently been taken by the competent bodies in various regions of the country, with the aim of upgrading port infrastructure and strengthening the tourist product.

In Leros, the General Directorate of Environmental Policy of the Ministry of Environment and Energy proposed the approval of environmental conditions for the creation of a tourist boat anchorage at the location of Partheni in the Municipality of Leros. The project envisages the creation of an organized docking area with 22 berths for medium-sized boats, on the west coast of Partheni Bay. The marine area of 10,181.90 sq.m. will include two floating platforms and a 119 m long windward breakwater, while in the land zone (2,980.35 m2) the construction of a small building facility to meet operational needs is planned, among other things.

In Ouranoupoli, Halkidiki, the Municipal Port Fund Aristotle proposed the declassification of the existing Tourist Port, abolishing the zoning of the Tourist Boat Shelter and its concession to the Regional Unit of Halkidiki. According to the proposal, the initial port project studies need updating, as approximately two decades have passed since their preparation. At the same time, the current image of the port – with unfinished projects and construction site facilities on land – is considered to affect the historical and cultural identity of the area, which is the main gateway to Mount Athos.

In Xiromero, the Municipality accepted the signing of the Concession Agreement for the Tourist Shelter with the Ministry of Tourism, marking the start of a development project that had been pending for several years. As noted, the necessary resources for the development of the infrastructure have been secured, while the activation of the agreement creates new opportunities for the exploitation of the coastal front of the area.

In Agia Anna, Evia, the Municipality of Mantoudio – Limni – Agia Anna decided to assign the organization and operation of the shelter to a private company with experience in the management of port facilities. The aim of the decision is to upgrade the services provided to users and maximize the social and economic benefits for the local community.

These interventions are part of a broader strategy to strengthen maritime tourism and improve port infrastructure, which are critical factors for the tourism development of the island and coastal areas of the country.
