In the heart of Ermionida, in the Peloponnese, Chrysi Akti and Limanakia are preparing to welcome new interventions aimed at protecting the coastline from erosion, as well as preserving the natural beauty and safety of the coastal zone. The Region of Peloponnese, implementing body of the projects, received the approval of the environmental conditions, which marks the start of a major intervention to protect the coast and the overlying road.
In Chrysi Akti, the works will focus on a length of approximately 330 meters and include the construction of a reinforced concrete retaining wall, which will be founded on a pile diaphragm, as well as a reinforced embankment, known as “reinforced earth”. The aim is to reinforce the slopes of the coastal road and protect them from further erosion, while at the same time a vegetated lining will be formed for the aesthetic and environmental integration of the project. The asphalt layer of the road will be completely reconstructed, accompanied by a rainwater drainage system, in order to ensure the smooth flow of water and prevent possible damage.
In Limanakia, where the slope is lower, the construction of a simple retaining wall, lined with rubble and drainage holes for rainwater is planned. The coastal road will be reconstructed, while the water outlets will be formed to maintain the natural flow and safety of the area.
A companion project, the detached low-top breakwater, will be added after two years, if the need for further protection of the sandy area of ????Chryssi Akti is determined. The breakwater will act as a natural absorber of wave energy, maintaining the charm of the beach and reducing coastal erosion.
Upon completion of the projects, Chryssi Akti and Limanakia are expected to acquire upgraded safety and environmental stability, while maintaining their aesthetic and tourist value. This is a significant investment in the protection of the natural coastline, combining technical competence with respect for the environment, ensuring that visitors will continue to enjoy the crystal clear waters and unique natural beauty of the area.
