The Mitsis Group, one of the largest and most historic hospitality groups in Greece, is undergoing an extensive investment transformation, implementing a plan that exceeds 250 million through 2028. With 23 hotels and resorts across seven regions of the country and more than 480,000 annual visitors, the group is strengthening its strategy through high-value investments, upgrades of existing properties, and expansion into new markets.
According to the Groups Managing Director, Stavros Mitsis, in the 2024 Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility Report just released, Growth is never just about expansion; it also includes responsibility. Through strategic investments and our presence in seven destinations, we aim to prove that luxury and sustainability can go hand in hand.
We encourage our guests, employees, suppliers, and all partners to support and join us in shaping a more sustainable future, notes the Groups President, Christina Mitsi.
Rhodes at the Center: Major Renovations and New Projects Worth Millions
Rhodes remains the group’s most significant investment hub. Two of the Mitsis Groups largest projects are underway simultaneously on the island:
Renovation of Rodos Maris in Kiotari
The first phase of the full reconstruction of Rodos Maris, with a total budget of 10 million, is already in progress. The project includes extensive upgrades to its 432 rooms, common areas, pools, spa, and outdoor spaces, aiming for a comprehensive modernization and an enhanced guest experience. The investment falls under the Development Law and includes 3.2 million in tax exemptions.

The New Grand Hotel in Rhodes
The historic Mitsis Grand Hotel is being transformed into a modern luxury resort operating year-round, through an 80 million redevelopment project co-financed by the Recovery Fund. The reconstruction plans include new rooms and luxury residences, a food hall, a shopping center, and expanded leisure facilities. Reopening is scheduled for 2026.

The Mega-Project at Afandou Golf
The group has also secured development rights for the Afandou Golf area, where one of the Mediterraneans largest tourism investments is planned, with a total budget of 360 million. It will feature a golf course designed by Nicklaus Design, three new hotels, a marina, and a commercial and entertainment village.
This investment aims to create a new international hub for premium hospitality and activities.
Expansion into New Destinations
The Mitsis Group is steadily expanding its geographical footprint, adding new properties and taking over the management of strategically important hotels.
The recent acquisition of Messonghi and the management of Belvedere in Corfu marks the Groups entry into one of the countrys fastest-growing destinations.

In Halkidiki, the Groups management arm, Filoxenia, recently took over Alexander the Great, adding another key asset in a high-demand region with strong growth potential.
The operation of Mitsis NU Piraeus Port, a modern boutique city hotel, strengthens the Groups presence in Attica and establishes a new reference point for travelers connecting with the port and the Aegean islands.

Strategic Upgrading Through Filoxenia Management
Filoxenia, the Groups management division, is a key driver of its expansion strategy. It manages Mitsis-owned hotels, Bali Paradise in Crete, Radisson Blu Zaffron in Santorini (Fais Group), as well as properties in Halkidiki and Corfu.
This strategy enables the Group to grow its presence in top destinations and build collaboration ecosystems with a strong local dimension.
Sustainable Investments Supporting Local Communities
The Groups growth is built on a stable foundation of supporting the regions in which it operates.
Fifty-seven percent of employees come from the destinations themselves, a figure significantly higher than in previous years. More than 70 local suppliers and over 50 concierge partners benefit from the operation of the Groups hotels. Mitsis designs long-term employment and training programs on islands and remote areas, reducing regional inequalities and boosting local economies.
Furthermore, the Groups strategy embraces the principle that growth must be paired with responsible operation. Upgrades and new properties are designed with energy efficiency criteria, bioclimatic architecture, waste and water footprint reduction, biodiversity enhancement programs in each destination, and partnerships with local organizations and schools for environmental education.
The Group holds international certifications such as Blue Flag, Travelife Gold, and ISO, confirming its continued commitment to sustainable hospitality.
