The Region of Western Greece has issued a call for proposals within the framework of the Integrated Territorial Investment (ITI) Strategy for the Municipalities of Aktio-Vonitsa and Amfilochia, focusing on a set of interventions aimed at promoting comprehensive and inclusive social, economic, and environmental local development, with particular emphasis on sustainable tourism, culture, and natural heritage in areas outside urban centers.
Among the central points of the Strategy is the tourism promotion of the regions natural resources and the enhancement of the local tourism product within the ITI boundaries of Aktio-Vonitsa and Amfilochia. Particular attention is given to the dissemination and promotion of local agri-food products through their connection with businesses operating in tourism and hospitality. Actions include the creation of a registry of agri-food products, the establishment of a unified Local Products of the ITI Area label, and the education, training, and inspection of potential beneficiary businesses for the award of this label. In parallel, festivals and other events are planned to strengthen local identity and provide immersive experiences for visitors.
A special role is also assigned to the promotion, protection, and utilization of the cultural heritage of the two municipalities. The strategy includes interventions related to the restoration, modernization, and expansion of cultural infrastructure such as libraries, multipurpose centers, and conference facilities, as well as projects highlighting archaeological sites and their access routes. Planned actions include vegetation clearing, fire prevention works for safety reasons, trail development, installation of informative signs, seating, viewpoints, and lighting improvements to enhance the functionality and accessibility of these sites.
Additionally, the strategy provides for funding complementary interventions, such as connections to public utility networks or even property acquisitions where necessary. Special mention is made of the possibility to support investments incorporating the principles of the New European Bauhaus initiative, combining sustainability, aesthetics, and participation, with the goal of implementing inclusive, sustainable, and attractive solutions to climate challenges.
