The Municipality of Komotini has decided to extend the existing leases of the apartments (bungalows) at Fanari Tourist Beach for an additional two years, until 31-12-2027, with the possibility of a unilateral extension upon request for one more year, if desired. This extension is conditional on the current tenants settling all existing and past financial obligations to the Municipality by 28 February 2026.
The rent will be prepaid during the first two months of each year. Additionally, the Municipality decided to allocate 4 bungalows per year free of charge to families of Komotini residents who have a member with a mobility disability of at least 67%, taking into account total family income and the value of their real estate assets. The same decision allows the Municipal Committee to re-auction all bungalows that become vacant from tenants who choose not to participate in the lease extension.
At Fanari Tourist Beach, there are 78 bungalows provided by the Public Properties Company S.A. (ETAD) to the Municipality of Komotini (as the legal successor of the Municipality of Aigeiros) until 2030, according to the grant agreement dated 28 June 2000. These bungalows are leased to private individuals, and after two consecutive extensions, the leases are set to expire on 31 December 2025.
It should be noted that neither the original announcement nor the contract terms signed between the Municipality and the tenants included a lease extension. However, there is also no explicit prohibition against extending the leases. One clause in the signed private lease agreements states that silent renewal is not recognized and strictly prohibited. According to a relevant legal opinion available to the Municipality, it is thus possible to agree on a lease extension for reasons that could not have been foreseen at the time the contracts were signed.
