Telegraph elects Patmos best for religious history

The island of Patmos is elected as the best Greek island for religious history by British newspaper Telegraph in a publication on the 19 best Greek isles, for different types of tourism.

As Marc Dubin says, “tradition (and Friedrich H?lderlin’s famous 1802 poem “Patmos”) asserts that St John the Evangelist (Theologos in Greek) penned the New Testament’s Book of Revelations on P?tmos just after 95AD”. A millennium later, the monk Christodoulos founded the imposing fortified monastery of the saint on the island’s summit.”

The newspaper notes that “this monastery is the main attraction on the island, and lends it a “palpably spiritual atmosphere”, but there are also excellent beaches, arty boutiques and wonderful views to lure holidaymakers“.
