Historic Report: Judas received around $15,000 to betray Jesus

According to the Gospel of John, Judas Iscariot received 30 silver coins to betray Jesus and put him in the hands of Caiaphas, or in today’s money, $15,000, greekreporter.com notes in the following article:

Judas’ kiss directed Jesus Christ to the soldiers of the high priest, Caiaphas, who handed him over to the Roman soldiers of Pontius Pilate.

Researchers have for a long time tried to calculate the value of the famous “30 silver coins” that history’s greatest traitor received, in order to commit the deplorable act.

Based on the words of various prophets, researchers believe that the 30 silver pieces were Tyrian shekels — a coin of Tyre; which is an ancient city in Lebanon.

In the New Testament era, a shekel was about four Greek drachmas. Each coin weighed about half an ounce of silver — roughly 16 grams.

In its current value, a shekel would be worth between $400 and $500 which means that 30 silver coins are worth about $15,000.
