A touching video of a traditional marriage proposal, shot in the streets of Heraklion, the largest city on Crete, has gone viral recently, according to greekreporter.com.
The future groom, escorted by his friends and musicians, walks the central streets of Heraklion playing traditional Cretan songs, called mantinades, accompanied by the Cretan instruments including the lyra and the laouto.
When the party reaches the young man’s unsuspecting girlfriend, the music stops suddenly and the prospective groom kneels in front of the woman, offering a ring.
The happiness of not only the young woman but the onlookers as well is wonderful to witness, as the new fiance accepts the young man’s proposal with tears of joy.
She then kisses him and takes his ring, making this a most traditional and romantic marriage proposal, one for the ages.
