Few know that Greeks colonized the Crimean peninsula as far back as 2,600 years ago, greekcitytimes.com reports.
Even though today the Greeks of the peninsula only number a few thousand, their legacy and connection to their Greek identity remain strong.
This year was no exception, with Pontian Greeks celebrating Christmas in a very typical way.
Adorned in traditional clothes and playing a Lyra, the Pontian Greeks performed Christmas carols.
On Twitter, the Russian Embassy in Athens noted:
“The Greeks of Crimean Russia celebrate Christmas. “Best wishes”!”
