The reaction of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the vandalism of the Imperial Gate of Hagia Sophia in Constantinople was intense, protothema.gr reports.
In a statement, the Foreign Minister voiced regret and disgust for the images, while asking the competent authorities “to do their best so that those responsible are brought to justice, as well as to immediately repair the damage to the Monument”.
The destruction of the historic imperial gate of Hagia Sophia was denounced by the Art History Association on its Twitter account.
Specifically, the Association in a post on Twitter states that: “We found that the historic Imperial Gate of Hagia Sophia is in this condition and we photographed it, around 20:45 tonight (18.04.2022)”, quoting the relevant photo.
The link also stigmatizes the response of the security officer of Hagia Sophia, who stated that he was unaware of the incident and that the security cameras did not record it.
