Study in Greece (SiG) and Greek diplomatic authorities in the U.S. have joined forces to increase awareness about study opportunities in Greece, forge contacts, and promote enhanced collaboration between Greek and U.S. higher education institutions. This framework of U.S.-Greece Academic Collaboration in Higher Education has established various academic and research partnerships and synergies.
Semester abroad programs, student exchanges, and short-term courses designed and implemented by U.S. and Greek partnering institutions are examples of the growing academic relationship between the two countries. These innovative programs offer American students the unparalleled opportunity to step into Greece’s living history, dive into the birthplace of democracy, philosophy, and theater, and let the vibrant Greek culture inspire their academic pursuits.
Following this U.S.-Greek academic mobility trend, the University of Tennessee (UT) and the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), under the guidance of the Consul General of Greece in Atlanta, Theodoros Dimopoulos and SiG, launched a semester-abroad program aimed at enriching students’ academic and cultural experiences.
Combining classes at the University of Athens Classics department and faculty-led field trips all around Greece, the program offers U.S. students the unique opportunity to delve into the world of Ancient Greece and discover the history and culture that made such an iconic era, stopping along the way to reflect on philosophy, art, and politics that still impact us today.
