The major wager of the local community of Drama for the re-operation of the ski resort of Falakro was won on the Epiphany holiday, ANA reports. According to officials of the ski resort and police’s estimates, over 12,000 persons went to the mountain for skiing or just to enjoy the view.
Everyone involved spoke of an unexpected response from the people and an unprecedented turnout, which resulted in a queue of kilometers. In particular, on Sunday, January 5, the traffic police were forced to stop the ascent to Falakro as it was not possible for anyone to reach it, or to park their car.
Deputy regional governor of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Argyris Patakakis speaking to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency did not hide his enthusiasm for the re-operation of the ski resort after five years. At the same time, the president of Drama Hoteliers Angelos Kallias in a post on social media said that he did not remember to have experienced something similar in the past, noting that this proves that the local community, the region, and the thousands of visitors love our mountain.
So far, the ski resort only operates at weekends, however, within the next few days and once all the checks are done by the technical crews to complete the five-year inspection, it will be able to operate on a daily basis.
