The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Elena Rapti, spoke about the importance of promoting conference tourism and the initiatives of the Ministry of Tourism for its development at the opening of the 14th Congress of the Association of Greek Event Professionals and Conference Organizers (HAPCO & DES).
“We recognize that the contribution of the conference and events industry to our national economy is great, as it generates more than 2.5 billion euros in our country every year, with the possibility of even doubling it in the coming years, as the conference visitor invests 4 to 7 times more than the leisure visitor,” said the Deputy Minister of Tourism and added:
“In the GNTO’s marketing plan for 2025, we prioritize the promotion of MICE Tourism, as we did in 2024 with our participation in London at ‘The Meetings Show, offering the opportunity for dozens of meetings with selected professionals in the conference industry from around the world. In the National Action Plan 2025 of the Ministry of Tourism, within the framework of the project “Improving the business environment in the tourism sector”, we have included as a milestone the end of 2025 the issuance of a Joint Ministerial Decision with the Ministry of Development, which will specify the procedure, content and supporting documents, the fee and sanctions for the notification of the start of operation of conference centers. At the same time, the advertising expenditure of the GNTO amounts to more than 60% for the promotion of thematic Tourism.
In addition, we are strengthening conference tourism by upgrading VisitGreece, the country’s official online portal, with cutting-edge technologies that will provide personalized travel information. At the same time, Greece’s tourism brand is being strengthened through international partnerships and targeted promotional activities.”
