The terms of the memorandum of cooperation between the company and the University of Piraeus were approved by the Development Athens.
The two entities look forward to the joint development of initiatives and actions of common interest, focusing on research for the sustainable tourism development of the Municipality of Athens. Particular emphasis will be given to supporting the actions of the Destination Management and Promotion Organization (DMMO) as well as the Athens Sustainable Development and Tourism Observatory, which operates under the responsibility of Development Athens.
The two entities have already collaborated on the recent preparation by the Department of Tourism Studies of the University of Piraeus of a study on the Tourism Carrying Capacity of Athens.
The University of Piraeus operates the 1st University in Greece specializing in tourism, the Department of Tourism Studies. It has many years of experience in issues related to research, teaching, and operational support in the critical sector of tourism, tourism development, tourism business management, as well as the tourism economy.
It has the appropriate teaching and research staff specialized in the tourism sector, with Professors of the University of Piraeus having previously held key positions in public bodies in the tourism sector, as well as consultants in large tourism companies.
The 1st University Center for Greek and European Studies and Tourism Education (at national level) operated at Pa.Pei. It has the only Postgraduate Program in Business Administration – Tourism Management (MBA Tourism Management – PMS DE.MT) in Greece of the Department of Business Organization and Administration of the School of Economics, Business and International Studies.
It is also worth noting the distance learning (e-learning) program of the University of Piraeus in the Administration and Organization of Service Businesses with specialization in Tourism Services.
As noted, the Department of Tourism Studies has specialized experience and a scientific background in issues related to the operation and evaluation of Tourism Observatories, which makes this cooperation particularly beneficial for the strategic targeting of the company.
The Department of Tourism Studies prepares specialized doctoral theses, research papers in scientific journals, presentations at international conferences, as well as diploma theses in the specialized field of tourism and in particular in Tourism Observatories. Through the Research Center and its research laboratory “Tourism Excellence”, the Department of Tourism Studies has implemented a number of development projects and special studies specialized in tourism.
