CERT to manage Vasilitsa Ski Resort – Investment of over 20 million euros

A new chapter for the mountain tourism of Western Macedonia and Epirus opens with the takeover of the management of the National Ski Resort of Vasilitsa (EXKB) by the company UCERT Monoposi IKE. As announced by the Growth Fund, UCERT was declared the Preferred Investor in the competition for the development of the ski resort, through a 40-year concession contract.

The agreement provides for an annual variable fee that is expected to exceed 7 million euros during the term of the contract. The investment scheme aims to transform EXKB into a modern, multifunctional mountain tourism hub, with activities throughout the year and not just in the winter months.

The development plan

UCERT’s business plan, with a total budget exceeding 20 million euros, includes extensive upgrade and modernization interventions:

  • Repair and modernization of existing facilities: It concerns the infrastructure already available at the center, such as the seven lifts and 18 downhill slopes (including two beginner slopes).
  • Renewal of mechanical equipment: Installation of a new generation of systems, aiming at the safety and comfort of visitors.
  • Development of new activities: Creation of infrastructure for mountaineering, forest walks, mountain biking and night activities.
  • Sports infrastructure: Preparation facilities for sports clubs, as well as swimming pools and spas.
  • Catering and hospitality upgrade: Complete renovation of the restaurant and chalet, construction of luxury lodges, as well as equipment and snowmobile rental shops.

UCERT’s ambition is for the EXKB to become not only the most modern ski resort in Greece but also an important destination for foreign visitors, attracting tourists seeking high-quality infrastructure and experiences.

Development boost and jobs

The investment is expected to act as a lever for regional development, strengthening the region’s small and medium-sized enterprises and enriching the tourism product. Particular emphasis is placed on the creation of dozens of new jobs, many of which will be full-time and annual, given that the center’s operation will be expanded throughout the year.

The Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports had assigned the Superfund the process of maturing, developing and utilizing the EXKB, recognizing the organization’s experience in utilizing critical public assets. This particular competition is the first attempt to develop a ski resort in Greece through a concession agreement and in collaboration with private investors.

UCERT and Dr. Dimitrios Derpanis’ profile

UCERT belongs to the D Group, a leading human resources and vocational training certification body, which is managed by Dr. Dimitrios Derpanis. Dr. Derpanis, originally from Avdella, Grevena, is a retired Colonel of the Hellenic Army and founder of the group, with a vision of providing quality vocational training and certification.

He aspires, through the investment in Vasilitsa, to create a business hub that will upgrade the region and offer quality employment to dozens of young people in Western Macedonia.

Prospects

With the completion of the investment and the full development of the infrastructure, the Vasilitsa National Ski Center is expected to significantly enhance the tourism potential of the wider area, offering a comprehensive package of mountain experiences for visitors of all seasons.
