The Municipal Committee of the Municipality of Rethymno approved the terms of conducting an open, oral, and competitive tender for the rental of public spaces for the operation of a shared bike-scooter system in the context of promoting the principles of Sustainable Urban Mobility.

The subject of the contract is the rental of 29 public parking spaces for the operation of an automated shared electric bike and scooter sharing system.

In particular, the Municipality of Rethymno aims to install and strengthen the shared bike system with new software and a fleet containing electric bikes and electric scooters. Within the framework of the competition, the Municipality will accept offers from private companies for investment in technology, dockless bicycles – scooters without parking bases in the city of Rethymno.

This technology consists of flexible bicycle-scooter parking spaces spatially distributed in various parts of the city. The user has access to the bicycles – scooters through applications on his mobile phone. The bicycle-scooters are to be left in the spaces that will be defined as bicycle parking spaces and will be located by the prospective tenant via GPS. The bicycles-scooters have a built-in GPS receiver, so as to limit the phenomenon of their theft since the bicycles-scooters will be immediately located.

After their use, each bicycle-scooter will return to the spaces that have been defined and marked by the above regulation. Only in these specific locations will it be possible to return the bicycle-scooter so that it can be released by the customer and its charge will stop.

The auction will be held by the Auction Committee on Thursday, May 15, from 9.30 a.m. to 10.00 a.m. at the Municipal Office of the Municipality of Rethymno in Adele, former Arkadi Town Hall. The duration of the contract is set at one year from its signing with the possibility of an extension of another year, upon request of the contractor, at least two months before the end of the contract.
