From May 16 to 18, Chania plans to host the Thematic Alternative Tourism Festival “260KMemories” at Katehaki Square, in the Venetian Harbor.
The purpose of the event is to highlight the activities that visitors can choose during their stay in Chania, which include environmental resources.
The Festival is attended by entrepreneurs active in the field of alternative tourism, who highlight the dynamic hospitality and attractive products that they can offer to visitors and which can satisfy all demanding tourist profiles by responding to high-level experience services.
In particular, 50 exhibition stands are expected to be set up at the Venetian Port, in which exhibitors will offer the public some of their services and products in order to live the experience such as: horseback riding, running, recreational archery, sailing, intense activities such as rafting, water skiing, mountain biking, trail running, scuba diving, climbing, windsurfing, surfing and extreme sports.
According to the Municipality of Chania, the idea of ??organizing the Alternative Tourism Festival arose from the need to enrich and qualitatively upgrade the existing mono-thematic tourist product “sun and sea” into a multi-thematic product, which would combine and highlight alternative forms of tourism in a balanced way and would be in harmony with the modern trends of the demanding tourism industry. With this project, the Municipality attempts to harmonize with the internationally established trend that the increase in tourists is achieved by attracting visitors with a different profile and offering special tourist products and services.
Furthermore, alternative tourism actively promotes the agenda of sustainable tourism development by finding the balance between human needs and the preservation of natural and cultural resources. By holding the Festival, a coherent business network is formed and strengthened with the aim of expanding tourism income for the benefit of the entire society.
Finally, prospects for business cooperation are explored, highlighting tourism as a key pillar in the new development model for the economy.
