How the Mesolongi Lagoon will evolve into an international sports tourism destination
With a strategic focus on strengthening sports tourism, the Mesolongi Nautical Club is moving forward with another substantial initiative, investing in promoting the lagoon as an ideal field for training and rowing sports events. On the occasion of the broader discussion on the tourism prospects of the region, the Club recalls its active role in the field of training tourism, a role that has begun to bear fruit, both in terms of local promotion and international appeal.

Taking advantage of the lagoon’s unparalleled natural wealth and exceptional environmental conditions, the Nautical Club has created since 2006 a framework of action that makes the area attractive to canoe and kayak sprint athletes from Greece and abroad.

Recently, a new promotional video was presented with footage from the last international training camp in the lagoon, in which athletes from kayak clubs in Hungary and members of the Greek National Team participated. The material highlights the rare beauty and excellent conditions of the aquatic ecosystem, sending the message that Messolonghi can function as a high-level sports and ecotourism center. The video was edited by Emmanuel Psalias and is already available on the Group’s website www.nommes.gr.

The video’s screening on European online channels has begun to bear fruit, as there is already strong interest in new team visits next fall.
