Rethymno has emerged as one of the main filming locations for the popular German TV series “Temptation Island 2025”, following a request from the Central Plus Athens company to the municipality of Rethymno. The series, which is scheduled to be broadcast from next winter on a major German television channel, is expected to attract the interest of the German television audience and at the same time promote Crete as a tourist destination, with an emphasis on Rethymno and the surrounding areas.
The production will take place entirely in Crete, covering not only the city of Rethymno, but also villages in the wider area, such as Rustica, Gerani, Armeni, Adelianos Kampos, and Argyroupoli. During the filming, ground and aerial shots will be taken in various public spaces, but without focusing on monuments or archaeological sites, in order to ensure the protection and respect for the historical heritage of the island. In their official application, the producers assured that the scenes to be filmed do not affect or offend the history and culture of the region.
The choice of Rethymno for the production of the series strengthens the efforts of the Municipality to attract film productions, which is an important step for the tourist and cultural promotion of the region. By promoting the natural beauty and local culture, Rethymno aspires to emerge as a modern center of sports, culture, and film tourism.
The TV phenomenon that tests couples’ faith in a tropical paradise
The TV program “Temptation Island” is based on a reality show where four couples test their relationships by living with a group of singles on a tropical island, isolated from each other. During their stay, the couples are asked to decide whether to continue together, break up or leave with a new partner. This particular format has been adapted and broadcast in 26 countries worldwide, including Italy, Finland, Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, and France, where the series has been a great success with many screening cycles.
The completion of filming in Rethymno and the surrounding areas is expected on June 28, while the series promises to publicize the island in a way that highlights the natural beauty, vitality, and culture of Crete to an international audience.
