4 million euro investment by «J and G S.A.» in Merogli location – Aim to extend the season and attract high-income customers
A new page on the tourist map of Rhodes opens with the planned creation of a five-star hotel, specially designed for climbing and adventure enthusiasts. The investment, totaling 3.87 million euros, is being launched by the company J and G S.A., owned by the couple Argyrio Iakovidis and Eftychia Ganotaki, with the aim of becoming a boutique & design hotel of high standards, adapted to the needs of a specialized, but at the same time growing tourist market.
Boutique experience in the shadow of the rocks
The new tourist unit is to be built in the Merogli location of Rhodes, on an area of 14 acres, owned by J and G A.E. The complex, which will have 84 beds, will be housed in new buildings and will meet all the specifications of a 5-star hotel, offering services that will include a gym, a spa, as well as facilities friendly to wellness and activity in nature.
With a view to respecting the environment and sustainable development, the project has already entered a public consultation phase, through the submission of an Environmental Impact Study (EIS), in order to obtain the necessary permits.
Kalezoe brings climbing to the forefront
The project is called Kalezoe and is a strategic effort to diversify and enrich the tourism product of Rhodes. According to the EIA, the aim of the investment is to attract climbers and visitors in general with high interests in alternative tourism, with the aim of extending the tourist season from 180 to 210 days.
Rhodes, although not currently considered a traditional climbing destination like Kalymnos, has potential for the development of such activities – especially in areas such as Merogli, which offers natural relief and a mild climate ideal for out-of-season holidays.
Investment with an emphasis on quality
J and G S.A. seeks to develop a unit of high aesthetics and quality service, aimed at both the domestic and international markets. As reported in the IEA, the company aims to “create and operate a small hotel that will offer high-value added tourist services, maximizing customer satisfaction and contributing to the development of tourism in combination with the prudent use of natural resources.”
The hotel is planned to operate seasonally and employ approximately 15 employees. The full implementation of the project is scheduled for two years after the start of construction work.
Partnerships for high-value tourism
A strategic role in the operation of Kalezoe will be played by partnerships with tourism businesses and travel agencies, with the aim of attracting high-income visitors, which is considered crucial for the sustainability and profitability of the investment.
The project is part of a broader trend in the Greek tourism market, where demand is increasing for themed accommodations that offer experiences – and not just accommodation. Climbing tourism, combined with wellness and boutique aesthetics, is emerging as a lever for diversification and extension of the tourist season.
Rhodes on a new tourist path
The new investment in Merogli is added to a growing number of private initiatives that are repositioning Rhodes on the tourist map, not only as a classic summer destination, but as an island of multi-thematic tourism, capable of attracting visitors all year round.
With Kalezoe, Rhodes seems ready to exploit its natural potential for the development of tourist experiences with authenticity, specialization and a high level of services, consistent with new global trends.
