How do graduates of A.S.T.E. continue their tourism studies at universities?

A joint decision of the Minister of Tourism, Mrs. Olga Kefalogianni, and the Deputy Minister of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports, Mr. Nikos Papaioannou, decided how graduates of Higher Schools of Tourism Education (A.S.T.E.) will be classified into Departments or Single-Department Schools of Higher Educational Institutions (A.E.I.) with the main subject of tourism studies.

According to the relevant decision, the classification will be made for those admitted to A.S.T.E. before the academic year 2006 -2007 in the fifth semester of studies and for those admitted to A.S.T.E. after the academic year 2006 – 2007 in the seventh semester of studies.

The number of those classified amounts to 6% of the admissions of the Department or the Single-Department School of Reception of each academic year and is not included in the percentage of classifications. If the number resulting from the predicted percentage of classification has decimals, it is rounded up or down to the nearest whole unit. If the decimals are exactly half of the unit, the rounding is done up to the next whole unit. Exceeding the percentage of classifications is not permitted.

The application and supporting documents of interested parties are submitted to the Secretariat of the Department or the Single-Department School of Reception from the 15th to the 31st of October of each academic year. Supporting documents include a copy of the Degree, a copy of the Certificate of Analytical Grades, a copy of the Police Identification Card or another identification document with the same legal and evidentiary force and a detailed CV. The selection criteria for applicants are determined by a decision of the Assembly of the Department or the Single-Department Reception School, which is posted on its/her official website.

The ranking of candidates is carried out by the Rankings Committee until the required number of places is filled. The Rankings Committee is composed of three members and is formed by a decision of the Assembly of the Department or the Single-Department Reception School. The Rankings Committee is composed of the President of the Reception Department or the Dean in the case of a Single-Department Reception School and two members of the Faculty. of the same Department or the Single-Department School, as members. The Classification Committee must ensure the transparency and integrity of the procedure.

The classification decision is issued by November 15 of each academic year. The Assembly of the Department or the Single-Department School of Reception is competent to decide on the courses that the classified candidates must attend in order to graduate, taking into account the courses, theoretical and practical, that the classified candidates were taught during their studies at the A.S.T.E.
