An initiative that combines the joy of sports with the promotion of local identity is scheduled to take place on August 10, on the occasion of the 6th Cycling Tour of Falaisia, in the Municipal Unit of Falaisia of the Municipality of Megalopolis. This year’s route starts from the Municipal Community of Akovo and ends in the Municipal Community of Leontario, following a route that crosses landscapes of rare natural beauty, traditional settlements and timeless sites of the area.
This specific action, which is supported by the Municipality of Megalopolis, among others, aims to raise public awareness about the use of bicycles as an alternative and environmentally friendly means of transportation, while simultaneously promoting the area as an ideal destination for gentle forms of tourism. Participation is open to all ages, giving both residents and visitors the opportunity to get to know the beauties of Falaisia up close through a different experience.
Beyond the athletic dimension, the bike ride serves a broader goal: the promotion of the villages and small settlements of the hinterland, the stimulation of tourism and the highlighting of the special physiognomy of the place. The initiative is part of a plan for the continuous activation and extroversion of the local community, supporting the model of sustainable development and contact with nature.
As the organizers emphasize, the aim is to establish the institution on an annual basis, with a different route each year and with the participation of as many communities of the Municipal Unit of Falaisia as possible. In this way, the action gradually acquires the character of a tour-institution, which highlights Falaisia not only as a place of origin and memory, but also as a living field of experiential experience, contact with the environment and re-evaluation of the Greek countryside.
Falaisia, an area with a strong historical and cultural imprint, is one of the most authentic destinations of the Arcadian hinterland. It is characterized by the morphological variety of its landscape, the dense forests, the stone communities and the strong presence of monuments and historical references. It is a pure area that offers an ideal environment for gentle forms of recreation, such as hiking, cycling and exploring nature.
