Olga Kefalogianni | The strategic importance of Medical Tourism

“Medical tourism finds excellent development prospects in Greece,” emphasized the Minister of Tourism, Ms. Olga Kefalogianni, speaking at the inauguration of the new building facilities of the Ophthalmica Institute of Ophthalmology and Microsurgery in Thessaloniki.

The Minister emphasized that this significant investment upgrades health services in the country and strengthens Thessaloniki’s reputation as a modern hub of medical care and innovation in Southeastern Europe.

At the same time, he highlighted the strategic importance of medical tourism for the diversification and qualitative upgrade of the Greek tourism product, contributing to the diffusion of tourist activity throughout the year. “More and more international travelers are combining their holidays with health and wellness or choosing destinations exclusively for their high-quality medical services,” he noted.

He made particular reference to the field of ophthalmology, which presents high international demand and significant comparative advantages for our country. He emphasized that the investment of Ophthalmica, in collaboration with the Sanoptis Group, marks a new era for vision care, while highlighting the importance of prestigious scientific conferences such as the 6th Thessaloniki Revision Course in Ophthalmology, which is held in collaboration with one of the leading ophthalmology centers in Europe, Moorfields Eye Hospital.

“With cutting-edge infrastructure, international collaborations and health and tourism synergies, we can create new prospects for the national economy and Greek society,” he said characteristically.
